Miami (AP) — With 26 points, 10 rebounds, and 9 assists from Jayson Tatum, the Boston Celtics defeated the Miami Heat 110-106 on Sunday despite a late comeback.

Boston made 16 of 39 3-pointers, led by Kristaps Porzingis with 25 points, Jaylen Brown with 20 and Jrue Holiday with 15.

Tatum predicted that the match, which Boston won 33-points to 25 in Miami, would be closer. “They came to play, and we like to participate in such games. Everyone is vying with each other.”

This season, the Celtics have defeated the Heat in all three of their meetings, and they have won six of their previous seven meetings. After Boston forced the decisive game after losing the first three, the game took place in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals of the previous season.

“Late-game execution, you’ve got to set the table,” Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla said. “I think our guys did that.”

The Heat, who were severely shorthanded both early in the game and towards the conclusion, concluded with 15 points apiece from Duncan Robinson, Caleb Martin, and Tyler Herro, who scored 22 of his 24 points in the second half. Bam Adebayo also scored 22 points.

Leading scorer Jimmy Butler was not available for the Heat due to a family member’s passing. Butler had been granted a leave of absence.

Terry Rozier and Josh Richardson were lost to injuries for Miami. Midway through the third quarter, Rozier, who finished with 13 points, drove to the basket and landed awkwardly on his right leg, obviously favoring his knee. Monday’s MRI examinations for both players are scheduled, according to coach Erik Spoelstra.”It’s tough to see guys like that go down,” Robinson said. “And then Jimmy dealing with what he’s dealing with is unfortunate, to put it lightly.”

Richardson’s right shoulder injury forced him out of the game in the second quarter. His attempt to take the ball away from Tatum was fruitless, and he collapsed to the ground in agony.

“I felt my shoulder pop out on the floor and then it popped back in laying on the ground, so thank goodness for that,” said Richardson. “I’ll know more tomorrow.”

In the early part of the fourth quarter, Robinson battled for position with Brown, and Brown shoved him off into the stands. Robinson also favored his left shoulder. Following their verbal exchange, Robinson was given a personal foul call and Brown was given a flagrant 1 foul.”I just thought it was a dirty play, to be honest with you. … Just thought it was dangerous, unnecessary and excessive,” Robinson said.

Brown considered it two teams playing hard.

“I had no problems at all. “I believe he was well aware of his intention to become confused,” Brown remarked. “(The official) called the foul but he was still trying to hang on.”

With 1:49 remaining, Herro’s 3-pointer brought Miami within 106-104 after the team had rallied from a 15-point hole in the third quarter. However, Tatum and Porzingis each made two free throws to seal the victory.

“I thought our group showed a tremendous amount of grit in that second half,” Spoelstra stated. “The injuries were just one of several things that weren’t exactly going our way. It’s a testimony to how hard the players were playing to really fight back and take control of the game.”
