Washington adds another former Detroit Lions QB
ALLEN PARK — Jeff Driskel has moved onto his fifth team in as many seasons since splitting with the Detroit Lions, inking a one-year deal with the Washington Commanders according to ESPN.
Driskel spent the 2019 season in Detroit and started three games for an injured Matthew Stafford. He had four touchdown passes, four interceptions and a passer rating of 75.3 in losses against Chicago, Dallas and Washington before suffering a season-ending injury. He was replaced by third-stringer David Blough, who has now been hired as Washington’s assistant quarterbacks coach.
Driskel is known for having plus-athleticism, and has continued to find work in Denver, Houston, Arizona, Cleveland and now Washington in his post-Lions years. He even got some rotation as a tight end while with the Texans.
Driskel, who turns 31 this month, is the third quarterback on Washington’s roster, joining Marcus Mariota and Jake Fromm. The Commanders could also spend the No. 2 pick on a quarterback in this month’s draft.
