Frenkie de Jong, a midfielder for Barcelona, has responded to recent rumors that he is interested in joining Manchester United by stating that he will not rule out the possibility of a future transfer to the Old Trafford club.

Erik ten Hag, the manager of the Red Devils, has a great deal of respect for the former Ajax player and was particularly eager to organize a reunion for the year 2022.

For the purpose of signing the Netherlands international star, Manchester United reached an agreement in principle, and it was anticipated that a transaction of €65 million would be finalized.

Despite this, the transfer did not go through, and De Jong revealed in May 2023 that both clubs had reached an agreement on a deal.

In spite of the fact that he disclosed that he was not very interested in leaving Barcelona at the time, the midfielder has kept the door open for the possibility of a transfer to Manchester United.

“I’m at the club of my dreams, Barcelona,” De Jong said in an interview with the Dutch newsmagazine NOS.

Given their troubles thus far this season, Manchester United could really use De Jong right now; but, the development of Kobbie Mainoo may cause them to reconsider how they feel about the situation.

According to reports, the Red Devils are of the opinion that the 18-year-old possesses a great deal of the attributes that Ten Hag was looking for in the Barcelona midfielder, and for this reason, they may choose to focus on strengthening other areas instead.

In the six Premier League matches that he has participated in this season, Mainoo has started every single one of them, and he has been mainly impressive in each of them.

In Manchester United’s most recent match, which they lost 2-1 to Nottingham Forest, he was taken out of the game at halftime because the team wanted to attack more.
