The Texas Longhorns offensive line received a boost for the 2024 season today with the announcement that Jake Majors will return for his fifth and final season in Austin.
“I would like to thank Coach Sark and Coach Flood for affording me the privilege of returning for the 2024 season,” Majors wrote. “Playing for UT is a privilege that I do not take lightly. I want to thank my family, teammates, coaches, friends, and our loyal fanbase for their support during this process. I look forward to continuing my education, improving my leadership on and off the field, and being a big part of the Texas Longhorn community in 2024.”
Majors has been a mainstay on the offensive line since arriving to Texas in 2020, playing in 42 career games with 41 starts as he enters his season season after arriving on the Forty Acres as a consensus four-star prospect ranked as the No. 195 player nationally and the No. 5 center in the 2020 recruiting class, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
The Prosper product graduated in December and received recognition on Senior Night, leading to speculation that he might not return for a fifth season at Texas. However, Majors told Burnt Orange Nation after the regular-season finale against Texas Tech that he was undecided about his future, leaving open the possibility of coming back to Texas.
Majors earned several accolades in 2023, including leading the Texas offensive line, which was named a Joe Moore Award Semifinalist, and an All-Big 12 honorable mention. Majors has been at the center of the revitalization of the Longhorns offensive line under position coach Kyle Flood and has now blocked for a 1,000-yard rusher in three straight seasons. That included the Doak Walker Award winner and unanimous All-American running back Bijan Robinson as he rushed for 1,580 yards in 2022.
As a redshirt junior, Majors posted the highest overall grade of his career at 70.1 with a pass-rush grade of 83.9 — the 6’3, 315-pounder did not allow a sack all season and only gave up one quarterback hit. However, Majors did grade out as a below-average run blocker for the fourth straight season.
Four of the five starters on the Texas offensive line from 2023 are now expected to return for 2024 with Majors rejoining Hayden Connor, Kelvin Banks, and DJ Campbell. Only Christian Jones is departing after exhausting all of his remaining eligibility, but Cameron Williams is projected to fill his role at right tackle.
