Last Wednesday, the Richmond Hill Lady Wildcats basketball team fell short against Lowndes High School, losing 45-34 and a chance at the region title.

But while Lowndes would go on to play Moultrie for the region title and ultimately win it, Richmond Hill would need to then face another Wildcat team for seeding purposes, the Camden County Lady Wildcats, at their home court.

Richmond Hill ultimately came away with a decisive 49-34 victory to finish third in the region seeding.

“It was a great win against Camden,” head girls’ basketball coach Sarah Jones said. “The girls played really hard and made some good adjustments from the last time we played them, so it’s definitely a great win going into the state playoffs.”

Richmond Hill would also split the wins with Camden on the year, as they beat them 45-40 in Kingsland, but Camden would beat the Lady ‘Cats at home 50-43 in a surprising loss for Richmond Hill.

The Lady ‘Cats are in the first round of the playoffs and will travel to North Paulding High School to take on the Lady Wolfpack in hopes of a win and continue in the playoffs. Every game moving forward is a win or go home situation.

“North Paulding is a really good team,” Jones said. “They have some height that we will have to match up against, but we told the girls we just have to stick to the game plan and play really hard and always give ourselves a chance at the end.

“We had a good practice today before heading up to Atlanta so we are excited. We have told the girls not to focus on

rankings or numbers, but just to get out and play our game, play together and have fun, and everything else works itself out.”

Richmond Hill, who sits at 19-7 on the year, will make the long four and a half hour journey to Dallas, Georgia, in hopes of continuing their success from the season against a North Paulding team

that sits at 25-2 on the year, including an undefeated 12-0 record in their own region. Tip off for the playoff game will be at 5pm on Tuesday.
