Nick Nurse Explains Joel Embiid’s State of Mind Following Recent Injury
Joel Embiid, who had an injury, is he doing well?

Joel Embiid has always had to deal with ailments.

But, he finds that facing obstacles makes things harder rather than easier.

During the 2023–2024 NBA season, Embiid experienced several knee-related problems. First, it began on Christmas Day and lasted for four games. Then, starting on January 6, there was a three-month absence.

For a six-game span in late February, Embiid averaged 42 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists. Everything seemed to be going well for him. He was then unable to walk for two more outings due to swelling in his knees.

Embiid made his court debut against the Golden State Warriors on January 30. He was dubious to play going into the game, and it was obvious why. But things only got worse when an injured Embiid was forced to leave the game early after someone else kicked him in the knee.
MRI tests revealed that Embiid had a meniscus issue. In order to correct it, he will need surgery, which will prevent him from playing for a while. Although the big man’s return schedule is still unknown, it is obvious that his chances of winning MVP again have been severely limited, which makes Sixers head coach Nick Nurse feel sorry for the great center.

Nurse remarked, “I feel so bad for him; I talk to him every day.” “This season is historic for him. I believed that everything he did, from preparation to practice, was done at an extremely high caliber. .. Like, a competitive guy that plays games, practices, etc. I’m sorry for him.Having experience with long stretches of recovery might help Embiid navigate through the remainder of the season with a positive mindset. Before he opted for surgery this past weekend, 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey said that even though Embiid isn’t playing right now, he still shows a lot of support for his teammates.

The nurse attested to Embiid’s high spirits, however like most rivals, there are bad points during the healing process.

“What is his current state of affairs? To be honest with you, I believe he’s definitely a little up and down,” the nurse said. He seems quite upbeat to me, which is why I say he’s up. Then there are other instances when, in my opinion, he’s probably where anyone would be. There are difficult times ahead, and you’re considering what could be and what’s going to happen next, and the road to recovery and all that kind of stuff.”

The Sixers should find out soon if they can play again this season or not. Nurse anticipates that the star center will remain highly motivated and optimistic when that time arrives in order to support a significant recovery.

“It’s important to view it positively,” the head coach concluded. “Anyone who experiences a disease, accident, or illness in life must declare that they will recover and be prepared, am I right? He gives part of that to me as well.
