Verstappen refuses to comment on glaring statements about vision problems

Last week, Max Verstappen revealed that he suffered vision problems from his crash at Silverstone in 2021. In Hungary, the Red Bull Racing driver was asked to elaborate a little on those statements.

Hamilton tapped Verstappen off the track at Copse, sending Verstappen into the tyre stacks at a tremendous speed. The now 26-year-old Dutchman had to go to hospital. He did not seem to have suffered any major physical damage at first, but later Verstappen’s vision suffered while racing. Especially on hilly tracks or circuits with many advertising signs on the side of the track, he said.

At the Austin Grand Prix that year, it was very bad. Verstappen compared it to “like driving a speedboat at 300 km/h”. The three-time world champion considered putting his RB16B aside that race – which he did eventually win.

On Thursday in the paddock at the Hungaroring, Verstappen again had to tell his story as he spoke to GPblog among others. “It was just in 2021. After that it went away but, it’s not something that I would advise people to have while driving. But we are drivers, we have to deal with all kinds of things. everyone is walking around and there are people with little injuries or whatever. Those things happen, especially when you are around many people and the team, I don’t want to go into detail.”
