The website reported [23 January] that Everton would need to pay £12.8million for the young forward, who has netted eight goals in 16 Bundesliga 2 appearances during this campaign, having made his senior debut for the German side last season.  It is understood that the Toffees have been joined by Fulham, Newcastle United and Brighton in scouting the 18-year-old, with the Cottagers seeing the player as a potential replacement for the misfiring Raul Jiminez.

Considering Everton’s dire attacking statistics this season, with midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure atop the goalscoring list with six, there is little risk in signing Uzun, even despite his experience coming in the German second tier.

He has managed 11 goals in 21 appearances in all competitions this season, following his academy graduation last season. The youngster scored 27 goals for Nurnberg’s U17s before hitting 20 goals in 19 games for the U19s.On Demand: Dyche's Press Conference

Uzan has gone from strength to strength, defeating any challenge in his way. Age does not seem to be a barrier for this young striker, having already been involved with the Turkey U21s side already but has yet to be handed his debut.

Uzun may be a player for the future. But as he is playing his football in Bundesliga 2, it seems like a wasted opportunity not to sign the young prospect before another European club beats the Toffees to it, such as Fulham.

With Beto barely getting a look-in over Dominic Calvert-Lewin anyway, there would be no negatives in signing a relatively cheap talent who could gain valuable experience by learning from Everton’s current striker and deputising as his understudy. However, the threat of FFP could very much stand in the way of Uzun coming to Goodison Park in the next couple of seasons.
