Pep Guardiola to launch shock bid for former Man City player to rescue season with transfer no-one predicted
Manchester City may sign a surprise former player.
Pep Guardiola’s team are just two points behind fourth-placed Chelsea after beating Leicester City and West Ham in back-to-back games.
Despite their injury woes, City are expected to be busy in the January transfer window. A shocking rumor claims the Premier League champions are set to bring back a former player after a £120 million shopping spree.
Manchester City re-signed Ilkay Gundogan on a free transfer in the summer, but Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider says they want ex-winger Leroy Sane.
After joining from Schalke for £37 million in 2016, Sane won back-to-back Premier League titles and the FA Cup and scored 39 goals in 135 games in England.
In 2020, the PFA Young Player of the Year joined Bayern Munich, where he won three Bundesliga titles.
He can now negotiate a pre-contract with international clubs because he is in his final six months at Bayern. Under former colleague Vincent Kompany, Sane has made seven Bundesliga and Champions League starts in 17 games and scored five goals.
Sane is being monitored by Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, and City, according to the report.
City fans still remember the German for his electric wing play at the Etihad Stadium, and he has said that Guardiola helped him “reach a very high level”.
The Catalan consoled Sane after City eliminated Bayern from the Champions League in 2023.
Guardiola uncertain about January business
Guardiola has said he is doubtful if City would sign new players and emphasized how tricky the midseason market can be despite rumors.
“I don’t know right now,” he told a press conference.
“It won’t be easy. Maybe we sign, maybe we don’t. The club should prioritize adding players over just doing it for the sake of doing it.The club must do it for the situation and the guys who have had consistent injuries for many, many, many times. However, I doubt it will be feasible.
