NBA players express grief over the passing of ‘Angel’ Ingrid Williams just one day after her demise.

Approximately 24 hours after the tragic incident, the 18,000-plus attendees at Chesapeake Energy Arena gathered to mourn the passing of Ingrid Williams, wife of Oklahoma City Thunder assistant coach Monty Williams. In the aftermath of the horrific car crash that claimed the life of the 44-year-old mother of five, fans left floral tributes and signed cards for the grieving family. Players from both the Thunder and the New Orleans Pelicans were visibly emotional, deeply affected by the tragedy.

Monty Williams had previously served as the head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans for five years before transitioning to his role with the Thunder. Consequently, players from both teams in Thursday’s game felt a personal connection to Williams and his family. Prior to the game, several Pelicans players visited Williams at his home, including Ryan Anderson, who had been mentored by Williams during his time in Louisiana. Anderson, who had received invaluable support from Monty and Ingrid after the death of his girlfriend in 2013, expressed his profound gratitude and admiration for Ingrid’s unwavering strength and support.

Reflecting on the tragedy, Oklahoma City star Kevin Durant also struggled to contain his emotions during a press conference at his team’s shoot-around on Thursday. Expressing his deep affection for Coach Monty, Durant apologized as he was overcome with grief and abruptly ended the interview, unable to find the words to adequately convey his sorrow.
