No cause of death was given. Powell, a former star player at the University of Florida, was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He played one season for the Saints, recording two tackles in 14 games played during the 2014 NFL season.

Today we mourn the loss of Ronald Powell – a father, a brother, and a son who was loved and cherished by so many,” the NFLPA Formers Players Services said in a statement shared Tuesday. “We send comfort to all those who knew Ronald. #RIP.”New Orleans Saints part ways with three assistant coaches

After one season in New Orleans, Powell (6-foot-3, 237 pounds) signed to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ practice squad in 2015, but didn’t appear in any games. He signed with the Chicago Bears’ practice squad in September 2016, but was released by the team in December of that year.

After being released by the Bears, Powell signed with the Seattle Seahawks in December 2016, but didn’t play in any games for the team. He was released by Seattle in August 2017.
Powell was the top-ranked recruit in Florida Gators football history as part of ex-head coach Urban Meyer’s 2010 recruiting class, the Tampa Bay Times reports. Powell played in 35 games in three seasons for the Gators, recording 79 tackles, 18.5 tackles-for-loss and 11 sacks, before declaring for the 2014 NFL Draft after his junior season.
