Texas football 2025 winter transfer portal: Which players are leaving?

Which Texas players are remaining and leaving via the transfer portal in the winter 2025 offseason?

The winter NCAA Transfer Portal window opens on Dec. 9 after Texas football’s 2025 high school recruiting season and signing period ended last week.

This transfer cycle’s winter portal window is Dec. 9–28. That leaves head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns just a few weeks during this shorter winter gateway window than in previous years to identify crucial players to rapidly strengthen two-deep spots in 2025.

Texas expects roster attrition, especially in scholarship-rich positions, during the winter transfer portal season. A few of Texas players declared their transfer plans before the winter window started on Dec. 9.

This list tracks Longhorns transfer portal departures and destinations in the winter transfer window during the 2025 offseason.

Texas football players that departed for 2025’s transfer portal

Johntay Cook II, WR

TBD destination

Texas fired sophomore wide receiver Johntay Cook II in early November. Cook said he will transfer during the winter window after being fired on Nov. 2.

Cook has appeared in 20 games for Texas in the previous two seasons, including six this fall in 2024. He caught 16 passes for 273 yards and two scores in two seasons at Texas.

In Week 3 against UTSA, Cook grabbed his first two touchdowns in three receptions. Cook has two more years to qualify.

Cook joined the transfer portal on Dec. 9, according to On3.

Jaray Bledsoe, DL Destination: TBD

Redshirt sophomore defensive lineman Jaray Bledsoe was another Longhorn who disclosed their transfer plans before the winter window began on Dec. 9.

Bledsoe played 12 games for Texas in three seasons. Since 2022, he has seven tackles, one sack, seven quarterback pressures, and a fumble recovery.

Bledsoe has two years left.

Derion Gullette, EDGE/OLB Destination: TBD

Redshirt freshman edge rusher/outside linebacker Derion Gullette vowed to transfer on Dec. 9. In five 2024 Longhorn games, Gullette has two tackles and two defensive stops.

Gullette is eligible for three years more.

Tasili Akana, Edge

TBD destination

Tausili Akana, a redshirt freshman edge rusher from Kahuku, Hawaii, wants to transfer on Dec. 9. Akana appeared in eight Longhorn games over two seasons, including seven this fall for 2024. He assisted in a tackle.

Akana possesses three years of eligibility.

Destination: TBD for Aaron Bryant, DL.

Two defensive tackles with years of experience in the program and on the field have left for the transfer portal in the past week. Dec. 9 saw redshirt sophomore defensive lineman Aaron Bryant enter the portal.

Bryant made two tackles and two defensive stops in 13 Longhorns games since 2022. Two more years of eligibility.

Tia Savea, DL Destination: TBD

Texas senior defensive tackle Tia Savea wants to transfer after one season. Savea followed Johnny Nansen from Tucson to Autin for the 2024 season by transferring to Texas from Arizona.

Savea will redshirt and attend his fourth school for his senior year as he only played four games this season.

Savea possesses one year of eligibility.

CB Jay’Vion Cole

Jay’Vion Cole, a junior cornerback, stated his intention to transfer on December 10. Last offseason, Cole transferred from San Jose State to Texas for one season.

Cole retains two years of eligibility.
