Max Verstappen threatens to quit F1 over changes to upcoming race format

Max Verstappen has been known to voice his displeasure whenever he is unhappy with a situation, both at Red Bull and in Formula 1.

After winning two of the first three races of the season and holding a 15-point lead over Checo Perez in the driver standings, the Dutchman suggests he will quit F1 if changes to weekend formats do not suit him.

For the upcoming Azerbaijan Grand Prix, which runs from 28-30 April in Baku, F1 will implement a new format for practice sessions.

Instead of the traditional three practice sessions and Qualifying before the race, they will now test one practice and Qualifying on Friday, another practice and the previously tested Sprint on Saturday, and the race on Sunday.

“I think that’s much better for the excitement. Naturally, I hope there won’t be too many changes; otherwise, I won’t do it, I won’t be here for long,” Verstappen told Portugal’s Sport TV.

Max Verstappen and his contract with Red Bull

The world champion is under contract with Red Bull until 2028 and earns a salary of around 50 million euros a year.

However, while it is unlikely that Max Verstappen will leave F1, there is a clause that would allow him to do so.
