Why did Max Verstappen get emotional saying goodbye to the Red Bull RB19 car?

The reason can be summed up with another former Red Bull driver, Sebastian Vettel, in the midst of another dominant spell. In 2013, Vettel won the final 9 races in a row and 13 overall. While doing donuts celebrating one of these, he gave an insightful broadcast on team radio:

“We have to remember these days, because there’s no guarantee they’ll last forever,”

He was right, both he and Michael Schumacher have shown that after breaking the wins record a season, they struggle the following year for different reasons. Verstappen had a season that will stand out in the record books, not just breaking the record for wins in a season and consecutive wins, but shattering it. There’s no guarantee that he will be able to match or even beat it next year or in the future. After all, Adrian Newey is, as of the approach to new year 2023/24, 65 years old and not getting any younger. It’s a question of when he retires rather than if and when he does, it’ll be a body blow for Red Bull
