BREAKING: Saskatchewan Roughriders re-sign Canadian receiver and 2025 CFL Draft pick
The Saskatchewan Roughriders have re-signed Canadian receiver Daniel Wiebe, a 2025 CFL Draft pick.
Wiebe was selected 69th overall in the eighth round and attended the Roughriders’ 2025 training camp before returning to the University of Saskatchewan for his final year of eligibility. Standing 5’9” and weighing 190 pounds, Wiebe made the most of that season, posting career-best numbers. He was named Canada West Football Player of the Year, a finalist for the Hec Crighton Trophy, and earned first-team All-Canadian honours for the second consecutive year. His efforts helped the Huskies to a 7-1 record, a Hardy Cup title, and a berth in the Vanier Cup. Over 12 games, including playoffs, Wiebe caught 78 passes for 1,257 yards and 13 touchdowns, overcoming turf toe during the final stretch.

Across five seasons with the Huskies, Wiebe accumulated 217 receptions for 3,065 yards and 27 touchdowns, averaging 14.1 yards per catch over his collegiate career.
The Roughriders themselves enjoyed a strong 2025 season, finishing first in the West Division with a 12-6 record — their best divisional finish since 2019. Saskatchewan went on to defeat the Montreal Alouettes in the 112th Grey Cup in Winnipeg, capturing their first championship in 12 years. Quarterback Trevor Harris finished 11-5 as a starter, throwing for 4,549 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.
The team ranked second in both net offence and net defence and tied for third with a turnover differential of +8. Leading the charge on the ground was A.J. Ouellette with 1,222 rushing yards, while KeeSean Johnson led the receiving corps with 1,159 yards, and A.J. Allen paced the defence with 91 tackles. The Roughriders also enjoyed strong fan support, finishing second in attendance with an average of 28,427 per game — a 2.7% increase from 2024.
