The secret conversation Patrick Roy had with Peter DeBoer after being fired and replaced from New York Islanders revealed
Before officially taking charge of the New York Islanders, Peter DeBoer shared a brief but meaningful exchange with his predecessor, Patrick Roy.
DeBoer revealed that Roy sent him a message expressing confidence in the squad, telling him he would “really enjoy working with this group.” The comment underlined Roy’s belief in the roster despite his recent dismissal.

Roy was relieved of his duties on Sunday, with DeBoer stepping in for the final stretch of the regular season. The Islanders remain in the playoff hunt but have struggled for form, losing seven of their last ten games in a competitive Eastern Conference race.
DeBoer, 57, arrives with significant experience, having most recently been available after leaving the Dallas Stars and serving as an assistant with Team Canada at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
