Team Canada endured a heartbreaking defeat to Team USA in Sunday’s gold medal game at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games. Canadian captain Sidney Crosby was unable to suit up due to injury and had to watch from the sidelines, though he remained fully engaged throughout and even stepped onto the ice afterward to congratulate the Americans.

Speaking to reporters following the medal ceremony, Crosby admitted it was difficult not being able to help on the ice.

“Yeah, it’s tough,” he said. “It’s a lot easier playing than watching.”

Despite the disappointment, Crosby focused on the positives, praising his teammates’ effort.

“I think everyone should be proud of the way the team performed. I thought we did everything but score. We were so good today. I thought we deserved better, but unfortunately we didn’t get the win.”

Crosby revealed he came close to being fit enough to play but ultimately made the call that was best for the team.

“Pretty close. Ultimately, I wasn’t able to go out there and do what I needed to do to help the group. At that point, you’ve got to make the decision that’s best for the team. It’s not easy, but that’s hockey.”

He closed by commending the squad’s resilience throughout the tournament.

“It’s not easy to get to this point. We were tested and found ways to win. One of our best games was probably today. It just didn’t go our way. I’m really proud of the group and how we competed.”
