Vancouver Canucks make late trade moves with Capitals and Bruins on deadline day

The Vancouver Canucks were active late on NHL Trade Deadline Day, making a pair of deals, although they may be disappointed that forwards Evander Kane and Teddy Blueger ultimately remained with the team.

Instead of moving those players, Vancouver completed trades involving David Kampf and Lukas Reichel. The Canucks sent Kampf to the Washington Capitals and Reichel to the Boston Bruins, receiving a sixth-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft as part of the moves.

Washington also gave up a sixth-round selection to acquire Kampf. The forward began the season with the Toronto Maple Leafs before his contract was terminated through unconditional waivers in November. Shortly afterward, he joined Vancouver on a one-year deal worth $1.1 million.

During his time with the Canucks, the veteran appeared in 38 games, recording two goals and four assists for six points while finishing with a minus-12 rating. Vancouver likely viewed him as a depth replacement after Nic Dowd was dealt to the Vegas Golden Knights earlier in the week.

Meanwhile, Reichel’s move to Boston marks his second trade of the season. The winger was originally sent to Vancouver by the Chicago Blackhawks in late October in exchange for a 2027 fourth-round pick.

However, his stint with the Canucks did not provide much of a turnaround. Reichel featured in just 14 NHL games for Vancouver and spent most of his time with the team’s American Hockey League affiliate. In 23 appearances with the Abbotsford Canucks, he produced six goals and seven assists for a total of 13 points.
