Kris Knoblauch issues first statement regarding Leon Draisaitl
The Edmonton Oilers secured a crucial two points on Sunday with a win over the Nashville Predators, but the victory came at a heavy price.
Star forward Leon Draisaitl was forced to leave the game early after taking a body check from Predators forward Ozzy Wiesblatt, though it appeared the boards may have caused the most damage.
Draisaitl absorbed the hit but collided awkwardly with the unprotected boards in front of the Predators bench, forcing him out after only a few minutes on the ice.

On Monday, head coach Kris Knoblauch provided the first official update, confirming that Draisaitl is sidelined with a lower-body injury stemming from the incident. Knoblauch noted that Draisaitl is still undergoing evaluation by medical staff, and no definitive timeline for his return has been set.
Draisaitl has been a cornerstone of the Oilers this season, posting 35 goals and 62 assists for 97 points in 65 games. Any absence would be a major blow to Edmonton’s offense, leaving a significant gap that the team will struggle to fill.
