Montreal Canadiens captain Nick Suzuki is entering the NHL playoffs on a deeply personal high after the birth of his first child.

Just days before Montreal’s first-round series against the Tampa Bay Lightning, the 26-year-old centre and his partner welcomed a baby girl, Maya, born on Wednesday.

The timing also explained Suzuki’s absence from practice the following day, as he spent time with his family during the early moments after the birth. By Friday, however, he had already returned to the ice with his teammates as preparations intensified for the playoff opener.

Suzuki described the moment as incredibly meaningful, praising his partner’s strength and calling it a special milestone for both families. He also expressed gratitude that the birth came before the team’s travel to Florida, allowing him to balance family life with playoff duties.

Now back with the squad, the Canadiens captain is preparing to shift focus fully to the postseason as he leads his team into a demanding series.
