Ottawa Redblacks’ starting centre Peter Godber retires from CFL
Peter Godber has officially called time on his professional football career, bringing an end to his tenure with the Ottawa Redblacks.
The 31-year-old offensive lineman featured prominently last season, making 11 appearances as the team’s starting centre and playing a key role on the line. His departure now leaves a gap in Ottawa’s roster, but the franchise appears to have already taken steps toward securing a long-term replacement.

During Tuesday’s CFL Canadian Draft, the Redblacks used the first overall pick to select Giordano Vaccaro, an offensive lineman out of Purdue. The move signals the club’s intent to reinforce the position and prepare for life after Godber, with Vaccaro widely seen as a potential successor in the middle of the offensive line.
Godber’s retirement marks the end of an experienced presence in Ottawa’s lineup, while also ushering in a new chapter as the team looks to transition toward younger talent.
