Stewart Johnston highlights 2027 plans while attending Dogs’ Breakfast
Stewart Johnston visited Saskatoon this week to attend the University of Saskatchewan Huskies’ annual Dogs’ Breakfast, just days after unveiling major changes to the Canadian Football League.
The commissioner praised the event as a celebration of football culture before discussing the league’s new direction, including an earlier 2027 season start around Victoria Day and an expanded playoff format featuring eight of nine teams.

Johnston acknowledged concerns about reduced regular-season stakes but argued the new structure would heighten competition, particularly in the race for playoff seeding.
