Reason why Alabama QB AJ McCarron calls calls Auburn football coach Hugh Freeze a “full of s—.”
During a Wednesday episode of his podcast, “The Dynasty,” former Crimson Tide quarterback AJ McCarron used the chance to criticize Hugh Freeze in response to a question concerning Alabama’s recent recruiting success as Auburn football suffers on the trail.
McCarron told his co-host Chris Stewart, “I think Hugh Freeze is trying to do whatever he can to save face, and he’s full of s—.” At Auburn, he is beginning to feel pressure. As he enters his third year and is not seeing the success that the boosters, alumni, and everyone else who has donated a significant amount of money had anticipated by now, I believe he is attempting to determine and scramble the reasons for their failure.
According to 247Sports and On3, Alabama has dominated the 2026 recruiting season and had top-five classes nationwide. Three of the top ten players in the state have joined the Crimson Tide, who have 19 committed and 13 blue-chip pledges.
Freeze’s 2026 class, meanwhile, has quarrelled. According to consensus, Auburn’s class is the lowest-rated in the SEC and ranks no higher than 71st nationally up to just eight commitments. In his first two seasons on the Plains, Freeze signed two classes that finished in the top ten.
“Whether you like it or not, Alabama fans and alumni run the state of Alabama,” McCarron stated. “I’ve never had a strong dislike for Auburn. Hell, Alabama fans have reprimanded me for supporting some of my friends who played at Auburn. It demonstrates why, as I mentioned with recruits, I believe it is foolish for someone from Alabama to choose Auburn over the University of Alabama and not sign with the latter.
In their recent discussion of the Tigers’ recruiting difficulties, Freeze and Auburn athletic director John Cohen said that the post-House v. NCAA settlement revenue sharing arrangement would need a wait-and-see strategy.
“From what we’ve heard, the penalties for exceeding the cap are not enjoyable,” Freeze stated at an Alexander City event on July 2. “You have to manage that, and when you’re looking at rooms in our place — like the quarterback room, or the wide receiver room, or the D-Line room — where we’re not losing many players at all, on paper, and we like them, it’s really hard to just go out and be free, like we were the last few years, to go and recruit kids.”
