Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube breaks silence and speaks out on Nikita Zadorov’s Hit on Auston Matthews
Toronto Maple Leafs coach Craig Berube expressed disappointment over the hit from Boston Bruins blueliner Nikita Zadorov that sent Auston Matthews into the boards.
The second-period collision went unpenalized, but Berube said afterward he believed it warranted a call.

“I think it’s a penalty,” he told reporters. “He was in a vulnerable position. I don’t like the hit, but I’m not the referee.”
Matthews left the game with a lower-body injury and did not return. Berube said more information would be available after further evaluation.
Zadorov, meanwhile, maintained there was no malicious intent, calling it a “normal play” and saying he simply finished his check.
