BREAKING NEWS: The Winnipeg Blue Bombers officially signs GM Kyle Walters and the 55-year-old Canadian football coach as head coach
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers made it official on Monday, announcing that both general manager Kyle Walters and head coach Mike O’Shea have signed three-year contract extensions, securing their futures with the organization through the 2028 season. This announcement came just days after the team confirmed on Friday that the pair would return to lead the Bombers in 2026.

The upcoming 2026 season will mark O’Shea’s 12th year as head coach in Winnipeg, and he already holds the distinction of being the winningest head coach in franchise history, boasting an impressive 117–77 record. Walters, meanwhile, has been a cornerstone of the organization for even longer. Named the 17th general manager in team history on November 26, 2013, Walters hired O’Shea as head coach just a week later, beginning a partnership that has defined the modern era of the Bombers. Prior to his promotion to GM, Walters served the team in multiple roles, including assistant coach and assistant general manager, making the 2026 season his 16th year with the organization.
Under the guidance of Walters and O’Shea, Winnipeg has achieved remarkable consistency. The duo has led the team to nine consecutive seasons with double-digit wins and five straight Grey Cup appearances between 2019 and 2024, capturing championships in both 2019 and 2021.
Despite a solid 10–8 finish in the most recent season, the Bombers’ campaign ended in disappointment with a loss to the Montreal Alouettes in the East Division semifinal. Still, the team’s leadership clearly believes in the long-term vision of Walters and O’Shea, entrusting them to continue building a competitive squad capable of contending for more Grey Cup titles in the coming years.
