Montreal Alouettes general manager Danny Maciocia delivers his transfer stance over on the 25-year-old wide receiver Tyson Philpot future
Montreal Alouettes general manager Danny Maciocia spoke to the media on Tuesday for his end-of-season availability, with much of the discussion centering on the future of star wide receiver Tyson Philpot.

The Delta, B.C. native has yet to sign a contract for the upcoming season, but Maciocia is confident that the partnership between Philpot and the Alouettes will continue. “I’m confident we’ll keep him here,” he said.
“It’s important for us. He was a first-round pick — a selection we traded up for, knowing he could be available at that spot. We recognized his potential early. He’s young, and we want him to remain part of this team.
With the receivers and quarterback we have, we can be very successful on offense.” Maciocia added that Philpot’s quality is widely appreciated across the club, not just by fans, and emphasized the organization’s determination to retain him. He also noted that Philpot is eager to continue playing in Montreal alongside quarterback Davis Alexander.
Philpot himself told the media that any new contract must make sense for him and his family, otherwise he could explore free agency, where several other CFL teams would likely express interest. “I don’t have a crystal ball,” he said.
“I can’t predict what will happen, but any decision has to be right for my family and me.”
The Alouettes finished the 2025 season second in the East Division with a 10-8 record, defeating the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the East Final before falling to the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the 112th Grey Cup.
Davis Alexander, the team’s quarterback, went 7-0 as a starter during the regular season but missed 11 games due to a hamstring injury.
Maciocia highlighted Philpot’s ability to perform in critical moments, saying: “He’s an excellent receiver who can shine in big games.
Our focus now is to sit down with him and his agent and work toward a contract in the coming weeks or months. Tyson wants to stay, we want him to stay — now we just need to finalize a deal.”
Philpot ended the season with 61 catches for 804 yards and five touchdowns, including 87 yards on five receptions in the Grey Cup, demonstrating his knack for delivering in high-pressure situations.
His connection with Alexander has been a standout feature for the offense throughout the campaign.
When asked whether Philpot’s performances were enough to place him among the league’s top ten or twenty receivers, Maciocia remained cautious and did not provide a definitive answer.
