Breaking news: Montreal Canadiens have agreed to a one-year deal with Alexandre Texier.
After the St. Louis Blues placed Alexandre Texier on unconditional waivers, speculation quickly grew about where he might end up once his contract was officially terminated. With the Montreal Canadiens dealing with multiple forward injuries, they were immediately mentioned as a logical destination — and even labelled favourites by several insiders in the days leading up to the move.

Now that Texier’s contract has been formally terminated, the Canadiens have signed him to a one-year deal. The contract comes with a $1 million cap hit, prorated for the remainder of the season. Interestingly, reports suggest Texier had offers with more money attached, but chose Montreal regardless.
Texier only suited up for eight games with the Blues this year, recording a single assist. However, he’s just two seasons removed from posting a career-best 30 points with the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2023–24. Montreal will be hoping he can rediscover that form as they work him into a bottom-six role.
