Edmonton Oilers center Connor McDavid shares his honest view on Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner
Connor McDavid Speaks Out on Stuart Skinner After Oilers Goaltender’s Departure
The Edmonton Oilers recently made the surprising decision to move on from longtime goaltender Stuart Skinner, ending a tenure that had been both successful and polarizing. Despite guiding the team to back-to-back Stanley Cup Finals, Skinner’s inconsistent play this season—posting a 2.83 goals-against average and a .891 save percentage over 24 games—fueled calls from fans for a change in net.

While many supporters were ready to see Skinner leave, questions lingered over how his former teammates viewed the trade. Over the weekend, Oilers superstar Connor McDavid addressed the topic, giving a heartfelt assessment of Skinner’s legacy in Edmonton.
“I think he should be remembered for leading the way to two Cup Finals,” McDavid said. “Two exciting runs that he backstopped.”
McDavid didn’t stop at praising Skinner’s on-ice contributions; he also highlighted his character off the ice. “He was a good person while he was here,” McDavid added. “Always treated people well and that’s important.”
Although some fans may remember Skinner for his inconsistencies, it’s clear that those who shared the locker room with him will recall his contributions to the team’s success and the positive impact he had as a teammate.
