The hidden terrible reason why Chicago Blackhawks head coach Jeff Blashill was absent for their practice

The Chicago Blackhawks were noticeably missing a key figure at practice today, as head coach Jeff Blashill was absent. Assistant coach Andres Sorensen took charge of the session, and those in attendance quickly noticed Blashill’s absence.

The reason for his absence was later revealed to be a deeply personal and tragic one. Blashill was attending the funeral of Bob Facca, father of Blackhawks scout Rob Facca. Blashill, a long-time friend of Rob, has been personally affected by the loss.

In reflecting on the tragedy, it’s clear how deeply Bob touched those around him. He became affectionately known as “Grandpa Bob” for his remarkable fundraising efforts. Bob walked an astonishing 4,000 kilometers across Canada to raise money for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a condition affecting his grandson Louie, ultimately helping to raise $1 million for research and making a lasting impact on countless families.

Blashill, along with the entire Blackhawks organization, extends heartfelt condolences to the Facca family, including Bob’s wife Wendy, his children Rob, Joey, and Lisa, and his grandchildren Louie, Oakley, Bella, Khloe, and Clara.
