Artemi Panarin addresses Igor Shesterkin and New York Rangers fans before heading back to Madison Square Garden
There is still plenty of emotion for veteran NHL forward Artemi Panarin when it comes to his time with the New York Rangers.
Now a member of the Los Angeles Kings, Panarin is set to return to Madison Square Garden for the first time since being traded earlier in the season. Speaking ahead of the matchup on Monday, the veteran forward admitted the occasion will be an emotional one for him.

Panarin made no attempt to hide his feelings, openly acknowledging that he may struggle to hold back tears when he steps onto the ice in New York again. Despite those emotions, the Russian star insisted his main focus remains on helping the Kings in their push for a playoff spot.
The winger still has strong connections with the Rangers organization and several of his former teammates. One of those relationships is with Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin, who Panarin described as a close friend.
When asked about facing Shesterkin, Panarin joked that he hopes the star netminder has an off night when the two sides meet.
“I hope he has a bad night tonight,” Panarin said with a smile.
Aware that the comment might not sit perfectly with the Rangers supporters who cheered him for years, Panarin quickly added a lighthearted apology.
Given the emotions surrounding his return to Madison Square Garden, many expect Rangers fans to give Panarin a warm reception. His honesty about how difficult the departure was only reinforces the belief among supporters that he never truly wanted to leave the team in the first place.
All signs point to a heartfelt moment when Panarin skates back onto the ice at MSG—one that could bring both nostalgia and appreciation from the Rangers faithful. 🏒
