“Big blow for Pittsburgh Penguins” – 39-year-old Ice hockey centre delivers sad news on his injury fitness
On Sunday, hours before facing the Dallas Stars, the Pittsburgh Penguins confirmed that Evgeni Malkin will sit out due to an upper-body injury.
The team listed him as day-to-day, suggesting a short-term absence, though no exact timeline for his return was provided.

Malkin’s absence is a significant setback for the Penguins, who have impressed this season and currently rank in the upper half of the NHL’s Metropolitan Division, ahead of the Philadelphia Flyers, New Jersey Devils, New York Rangers, and Columbus Blue Jackets.
This season has marked a resurgence for Malkin after two campaigns of reduced output.
Last season, he recorded 16 goals and 34 assists for 50 points in 68 games. So far in 2025–26, he has already notched 8 goals and 21 assists for 29 points in just 26 games, putting him well on pace to surpass last year’s totals.
