Breaking: NHL’s top reporter shares a big update on the ongoing Vancouver Canucks Defenseman Quinn Hughes trade talks
For quite some time, there’s been speculation about the Hughes brothers — Vancouver Canucks star defenseman Quinn Hughes, along with New Jersey Devils duo Jack and Luke Hughes — eventually teaming up in the NHL.

Those rumours always felt unlikely given that all three are locked into long-term deals. But that narrative shifted this weekend.
On Saturday night, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman delivered a major update, suggesting the dream of the three Hughes brothers playing on the same team is closer than ever before. Friedman revealed that Vancouver and New Jersey have actually discussed a potential trade involving Quinn Hughes.
“Once Vancouver made it known they were willing to listen, I believe there was at least one conversation between the Devils and Canucks about Quinn Hughes,” Friedman reported on Hockey Night in Canada.
Such a move would instantly become one of the biggest stories of the NHL season — but fans shouldn’t get carried away just yet. Friedman emphasized that nothing is close at this stage.
“I don’t think anything is imminent. I’m not even sure the talks are very developed, but I do believe both sides checked in to see where things stand and what could be possible,” he added.
New Jersey’s salary-cap constraints appear to be a major obstacle, though deals of this size often find a way forward if the interest is strong enough.
More updates are expected as this situation continues to unfold.
