Trevor Harris Commits to Team-Friendly Deal with Saskatchewan Roughriders for 2026

Veteran quarterback Trevor Harris has once again prioritized team success over personal gain, signing a team-friendly one-year contract with the Saskatchewan Roughriders for the 2026 CFL season.

The 13-year CFL veteran will receive a $190,000 signing bonus along with a base salary of $220,000. Additional compensation includes $25,000 in marketing money, $15,300 for housing, and a $5,000 travel allowance, bringing his guaranteed “hard money” total to $455,300. Including playtime incentives of up to $54,000—$3,000 per game for playing at least 51 percent of offensive snaps—Harris’ earnings could reach $509,300.

Despite being a 112th Grey Cup MVP, Harris currently ranks behind Nathan Rourke, Chad Kelly, Zach Collaros, and Vernon Adams Jr. in projected quarterback earnings for 2026. Fellow veteran Dru Brown has more guaranteed money, though Harris’ deal maintains higher team-friendly flexibility, allowing the Roughriders to retain other key players under the salary cap. Pending free agents Bo Levi Mitchell and Cody Fajardo could affect the final quarterback rankings once their contracts are finalized.

Harris’ commitment to Saskatchewan extends beyond numbers. His agent could have negotiated a contract north of $600,000 for the upcoming season as he approaches 40 years of age. Instead, he chose to finalize his paperwork early in December—just as he did last year—giving general manager Jeremy O’Day and the football operations staff the flexibility to focus on other free-agent decisions.

Outperforming His Contract

Harris more than justified his 2025 earnings with a league-leading 73.5 percent completion rate, 4,549 passing yards, 24 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions over 16 starts.

He missed one regular-season game due to a head injury and was rested in another after the Roughriders had clinched first place in the West Division.

The quarterback led Saskatchewan to an 11-5 record and a perfect 2-0 postseason mark, including a dramatic West Final win in which he threw the game-winning touchdown with just 12 seconds remaining.

He capped the season with a Grey Cup record 85.2 percent completion rate, 302 passing yards, and MVP honors—earning his first championship as a starter and adding to two earlier rings as a backup.

CFL Legacy

Harris ranks 13th all-time in CFL history with 37,697 passing yards and boasts a career completion rate of 71 percent, second-highest in league history.

He has thrown 204 touchdowns (15th all-time) against 95 interceptions and contributed 1,197 rushing yards and 11 rushing touchdowns on 257 carries. Over his CFL career, he has compiled a 69-57-2 regular-season record, cementing his reputation as one of the league’s most consistent and accomplished quarterbacks.

With his 2026 season ahead, Harris has the opportunity to further solidify his Canadian Football Hall of Fame-worthy resume while helping the Roughriders defend their championship.
