Team USA Makes Controversial Roster Change Ahead of Olympic Opener

Team USA has announced a late roster change ahead of the Winter Olympics in Milan after defenseman Seth Jones was ruled out with an upper-body injury.

Jones, who suffered a collarbone injury during the Winter Classic on Jan. 2, has been moved to long-term injured reserve, confirming he won’t be available for the Feb. 12 opener against Latvia.

To fill the vacancy, Jackson LaCombe has been called up. LaCombe, in his third NHL season, helped the U.S. secure its first IIHF Men’s World Championship gold since 1933 and brings valuable international experience to the team.

Despite LaCombe’s addition, several high-profile defensemen, including Lane Hutson and Adam Fox, were again passed over—Fox sidelined due to injury. The move has sparked debate among fans on social media over who should have made the roster.

Team USA will face Latvia on Feb. 12, with opening face-off at 9:10 p.m. local (3:10 p.m. ET).

LaCombe’s presence aims to keep the U.S. strong on the blue line as they chase Olympic success, and fans will be watching closely to see the impact of the newcomer.
