Montreal Alouettes’ head coach Jason Maas explains why his quarterback Davis Alexander hamstring injury might have been caused by the star player
Montreal Alouettes head coach Jason Maas suggested that quarterback Davis Alexander’s hamstring injury may have been caused by over-training.
Maas said many young players push themselves too hard in the offseason, believing extra work will make them more prepared, but sometimes rest is just as important. He noted that Alexander’s high expectations for himself likely contributed to the issue.

Maas emphasized that Alexander isn’t too muscular for the position and that his strong play this season reflected the effort he put into his training.
However, he admitted that first-time franchise quarterbacks often do more than they should.
The team plans to review Alexander’s offseason program and adjust it to help prevent future setbacks.
Alexander, who replaced former Grey Cup MVP Cody Fajardo, aggravated the injury several times during the season and missed significant time. He revealed after the Grey Cup loss to Saskatchewan that he’d been dealing with a severe Grade 3c hamstring tear since April. Known for his intense workouts, Alexander admitted he may have pushed too hard and not given the injury enough time to heal.
Despite the limitations, he threw for 2,204 yards, 10 touchdowns, and three interceptions when healthy, helping Montreal reach the Grey Cup.
Maas praised Alexander’s effort and commitment, saying the quarterback simply wanted to be there for his team and will learn from the experience.
