Reports of the Pittsburgh Penguins potentially trading Tristan Jarry to Edmonton have gained significant momentum today
NHL insider Chris Johnston has confirmed that the rumours are legitimate: the Edmonton Oilers are actively exploring the possibility of trading for Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Tristan Jarry. Johnston stated on Wednesday:

“There’s been talk in the last day about their interest in Tristan Jarry — an Edmonton-born goalie who’s enjoying a strong rebound season in Pittsburgh. I believe there’s truth to it, and this is definitely a time when the Oilers need to be evaluating all their goaltending options. Jarry isn’t being shopped by the Penguins, but they’re in a position where they’ll listen on anyone.”
The Oilers’ urgency was amplified following their humiliating 8–3 loss to the Dallas Stars on Tuesday night. Stuart Skinner surrendered four goals on eight shots in the opening period before being pulled, prompting Oilers insider Mathew Panchyshyn to suggest it may have been his final appearance for Edmonton.
No official move has been announced, but speculation only intensified later in the day when Kevin Weekes reported that Jarry is among the goalies drawing serious interest from Edmonton. The 29-year-old has history in the city, having played for the WHL’s Edmonton Oil Kings. Jarry returns to the Penguins’ lineup tonight against Buffalo after missing seven games with a lower-body injury and currently holds a 5-2-0 record with a 2.60 GAA and .911 save percentage. Trade chatter could escalate further if an Oilers scout is spotted evaluating him in person.
Pittsburgh has four goalies available in their system — Jarry, Arturs Silovs, Sergei Murashov, and Joel Blomqvist — and Elliotte Friedman mentioned on his 32 Thoughts podcast that one may be moved. Weekes did not identify what the Penguins might seek in return, though sending back Skinner seems unlikely given his recent struggles. Still, with both Skinner and Calvin Pickard underperforming, one of them would likely need to be moved if Edmonton upgrades in net.
The Oilers have also been linked to several other goaltending targets, including Jordan Binnington (St. Louis), Juuse Saros (Nashville), Jonathan Quick (New York Rangers), and Anthony Stolarz (Toronto).
