Three possible landing spots for Bobby McMann if Maple Leafs explore trade
The Toronto Maple Leafs will be a club to monitor closely as the 2026 NHL trade deadline approaches. After beginning the 2025-26 season with lofty expectations, Toronto has struggled to find consistency. At the time of writing, they sit at 27-23-9 with 63 points, bottom of the Atlantic Division and eight points back of the Boston Bruins for the final Eastern Conference wild-card spot.

Given how the season has unfolded, many around the league expect Toronto to take a seller’s approach. One notable trade candidate is forward Bobby McMann, a pending unrestricted free agent. If the Leafs cannot agree to an extension before the deadline, moving him could become a strong possibility.
McMann would likely draw significant interest. The 29-year-old winger is a productive top-nine forward who combines scoring touch with a physical edge, making him an attractive option for contenders seeking depth and versatility.
Here are three teams that make sense as potential landing spots.
Oilers have been linked to McMann
The Edmonton Oilers have frequently been connected to McMann this season. Secondary scoring remains a concern in Edmonton, and adding a reliable middle-six winger could help balance their lineup. NHL insider Chris Johnston has even suggested the Oilers as a strong candidate to land him before the deadline.
If Edmonton were to acquire McMann, he would provide immediate support beyond their top stars. His ability to chip in offensively while playing a hard, north-south game would strengthen their depth scoring — an area that has lacked consistency.
Canadiens could explore rare deal with Toronto
A trade between the Montreal Canadiens and the Maple Leafs is uncommon given the historic rivalry between the clubs. Still, with Toronto potentially shifting into sell mode, Montreal could justify exploring the possibility.
The Canadiens are building toward sustained contention and could use a versatile, affordable forward in their middle six. McMann’s $1.35 million cap hit makes him financially manageable, and his physical style would add another layer to Montreal’s lineup, particularly in high-intensity games.
Stars positioned to make a move
The Dallas Stars may also be in a position to pursue McMann. According to Elliotte Friedman, Dallas filed paperwork confirming that forward Tyler Seguin will miss the remainder of the regular season and playoffs. That development creates additional cap flexibility and opens a need for forward depth.
McMann could slot into the Stars’ top nine and potentially complement players like Matt Duchene and Jamie Benn. His versatility would allow him to move throughout the lineup as needed, making him a valuable piece for a team with postseason ambitions.
With the deadline approaching, McMann’s situation is one to watch. If Toronto decides to sell, several contenders could line up for his services.
