Taylor Elgersma reveals full reason behind Winnipeg Blue Bombers move
Taylor Elgersma has opened up on his decision to join the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, insisting the move was always part of his long-term vision rather than a fallback option.
Speaking to media, Elgersma highlighted the confidence required to succeed as a quarterback, stressing that he has never been afraid to take risks on the field. While acknowledging the importance of decision-making, he made it clear that belief in his ability remains central to his game.

The Canadian signal-caller also addressed the timing of his arrival in Winnipeg, explaining that the journey has ultimately made him a better player. After experiences in the NFL system, workouts, and time in the UFL, he believes he is more prepared for the professional stage than he was coming out of college.
Elgersma emphasised that his decision-making was driven by opportunity rather than outside opinion. His pursuit of chances in the United States — including attempts to break into the NFL — was about gaining valuable experience and exposure, not turning his back on the CFL.
Despite exploring those routes, he maintained that Winnipeg was always a destination he valued. Since being selected in the 2025 CFL Draft, he has consistently viewed the Blue Bombers as a strong fit and expressed excitement about finally joining the organisation.
His path south of the border was influenced by the need to prove himself in the American game, particularly given the perception challenges faced by Canadian quarterbacks. The UFL offered him a platform to gain game film and keep NFL opportunities alive, making it a logical step in his development.
However, circumstances beyond his control — including delays in securing a U.S. work visa — ultimately disrupted those plans and accelerated his return to Canada.
Now back on track with the Blue Bombers, Elgersma is focused on proving his worth, determined to show that his unconventional journey has strengthened him rather than hindered his progress as a professional quarterback.
