Breaking news: Shock move as Vancouver Canucks part ways with GM Patrik Allvin

Vancouver Canucks have dismissed general manager Patrik Allvin following a disastrous 2025–26 season in which the franchise finished bottom of the entire NHL.

The decision came one day after Vancouver ended their campaign with a heavy 6–1 defeat to the Edmonton Oilers, sealing a 25–49–8 record and leaving them 14 points adrift of the next-worst side, the Chicago Blackhawks.

It marks a dramatic fall for a team that won the Pacific Division in 2023–24 and reached the second round of the playoffs in 2024, a high point that now feels distant after a rapid collapse in form and structure.

Much of the downturn has been linked to internal instability, including the widely reported tensions between forwards J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson, which disrupted the dressing room dynamic. Although Miller was eventually traded to the New York Rangers, the move failed to reverse the team’s decline.

Pettersson’s form also dropped sharply after signing a major long-term extension in 2024, with his production falling well below previous seasons.

Allvin was appointed in 2022 by team president Jim Rutherford, who had previously built Stanley Cup-winning teams with the Carolina Hurricanes and Pittsburgh Penguins. While the partnership initially raised expectations of a sustained contender window, the latest season has instead triggered a major reset in Vancouver.

The club is now expected to consider further structural changes as it attempts to recover from one of the most disappointing campaigns in its recent history.
