Breaking news: Winnipeg make roster move as Winnipeg Blue Bombers cut ties with receiver Gerald Monroe

Winnipeg Blue Bombers have officially released American receiver Gerald Monroe after only a short spell with the organisation.

Monroe originally signed with Winnipeg back in December as the club looked to add fresh talent and explosiveness to its receiving corps ahead of the 2026 CFL season.

The Texas native arrived in Winnipeg following a hugely productive collegiate career at Graceland University, where he developed into one of the most dangerous offensive weapons in the NAIA ranks.

Across four seasons at Graceland, the five-foot-10, 185-pound playmaker piled up an eye-catching 249 receptions for 4,297 receiving yards and 58 touchdowns.

Monroe also showcased his versatility throughout his college career by contributing in multiple phases of the game, including a passing touchdown and 180 combined kick-return yards on 14 total returns.

His standout 2024 campaign particularly caught the attention of scouts and CFL evaluators.

In just 10 games, Monroe exploded for 84 catches, 1,562 receiving yards, and 22 touchdowns while averaging massive production every week for the Yellowjackets.

He also added 38 rushing yards on two carries, contributed on special teams with kick and punt returns, and even registered five tackles.

The explosive offensive season earned Monroe several major honours, including first-team AFCA NAIA All-American recognition, first-team All-Heart North status, and the Heart North Offensive Player of the Year award.

Despite his impressive collegiate résumé and athletic upside, Monroe has now become the latest training camp casualty as the Blue Bombers continue shaping their roster ahead of the upcoming season.
