Danny McManus will continue in his role as assistant general manager of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, with GM Kyle Walters confirming the news during a media session on Wednesday.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats recently sought permission to speak with McManus regarding their vacant general manager position following the passing of Ted Goveia in September. It remains unclear whether an official interview ever materialised, though the connection made sense—McManus is a beloved former Tiger-Cat, having played eight seasons in Hamilton between 1998 and 2005 and guiding them to their most recent Grey Cup championship. He later spent several years on the team’s coaching and scouting staff before joining Winnipeg’s front office in 2014.

Now 60 years old, the Dania Beach, Florida native enjoyed a prolific 17-year CFL playing career with Winnipeg, B.C., Edmonton, and Hamilton, amassing 53,239 passing yards, 259 touchdowns, and 281 interceptions. His résumé also includes five Grey Cup rings, two of which he earned with the Blue Bombers.

Walters expressed his enthusiasm about retaining McManus, noting that the organization is entering a new chapter. “We’re excited from top to bottom,” he said. “It feels like we’re transitioning into a new phase, regrouping after a step backward. Now it’s on Mike O’Shea, myself, Danny, and the rest of the staff to take on the challenge ahead.”

Winnipeg finished the 2025 season fourth in the West Division with a 10–8 record, securing a playoff berth through the crossover but ultimately falling to the Montreal Alouettes in the East Semi-Final. Quarterback Zach Collaros completed the campaign with 3,048 passing yards, 17 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions over 13 games, posting a 6–7 record as a starter.

The Bombers placed fifth in total offence and third in total defence, though their minus-11 turnover ratio ranked eighth in the league. Brady Oliveira led the team in rushing with 1,163 yards, while Nic Demski topped the receiving chart with 1,001 yards. Linebacker Tony Jones paced the defence with 104 tackles. Off the field, Winnipeg remained a league leader, drawing an average of 32,343 fans per game—a 3.7 percent attendance increase from the previous season.
