The Hamilton Tiger-Cats reached out to Kyle Carson regarding their vacant general manager position, but the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ assistant GM has chosen to remain with the team, according to sources.

Carson, originally from Sherwood Park, Alta., and raised in Nolensville, Tenn., entered the CFL in 2012 as an intern with the Calgary Stampeders.

John Hufnagel later promoted him to CFL Draft coordinator, and he contributed to two Grey Cup championships before moving to Saskatchewan after the 2019 season.

He first served as director of player personnel before being elevated to assistant general manager in 2022. Carson played a major role in Saskatchewan’s recent Grey Cup victory and earned strong praise from GM Jeremy O’Day.

“Kyle has become a fantastic assistant general manager and will be a GM whenever he chooses,” O’Day said.

“He’s heavily involved in scouting, the draft, and everything you see on the field. He’s a hard worker with a sharp football mind and a bright future.”

The 38-year-old is a central figure in the Roughriders’ operations. He evaluates talent in Canada and the U.S., attends NFL camps and NCAA all-star games, negotiates contracts, oversees the CFL Draft process, prepares for free agency, and manages the negotiation list.

Carson previously played in the CJFL with the Victoria Rebels before joining the University of Calgary Dinos, where he earned a communications degree.

Hamilton’s GM role has been open since the passing of Ted Goveia in September. Carson was also a finalist for the job last offseason alongside Goveia and Geroy Simon, who later became the GM at the University of Maryland.

Saskatchewan topped the West Division for the first time since 2019 with a 12-6 record in 2025 and went on to defeat Montreal in the 112th Grey Cup, securing their first championship in 12 years.

Trevor Harris led the team with an 11-5 record as a starter, throwing for 4,549 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.

The Roughriders finished second in both net offence and defence, and tied for third in turnover differential at plus-eight.

A.J. Ouellette led the team in rushing with 1,222 yards, KeeSean Johnson topped receiving with 1,159 yards, and A.J. Allen recorded a team-high 91 tackles. Saskatchewan also ranked second in CFL attendance, averaging 28,427 fans — a 2.7 percent increase from the previous year.
