Brady Oliveira voices strong criticism of new Canadian Football League playoff structure
Brady Oliveira has voiced strong opposition to the Canadian Football League’s newly announced expanded playoff format set to begin in 2027.
The league star argued that allowing eight of nine teams into the postseason would dilute its competitiveness, insisting that playoff football should be earned rather than expanded. He suggested that league growth should come through expansion teams instead of increasing automatic playoff spots.

Oliveira’s comments came in response to Milt Stegall, who claimed players would fully support the changes due to increased exposure and financial incentives. However, not all players agree, with C.J. Reavis backing Oliveira’s stance.
The CFL confirmed the new format earlier this week, introducing a multi-round system that includes “Division Showdowns,” “Play-In Games,” and “Elimination Games,” ultimately leading to the Grey Cup.
Despite his extensive playoff experience, Oliveira remains unconvinced, believing the changes could undermine the value of postseason football.
