Breaking news: Hockey Canada announces captain for 2026 Winter Olympics
Team Canada will face immense pressure at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games, marking the first time in over a decade that NHL players will compete for their home countries.

As a perennial favorite in international hockey, expectations are high for the Canadian squad.
Hockey Canada revealed its leadership group early Sunday, with Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby named team captain.

Crosby, widely regarded as one of the most respected active players in hockey, will be supported by alternate captains Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers and Cale Makar of the Colorado Avalanche.
While some were surprised that Nathan MacKinnon was not included in the leadership group, overall reactions to the announcement have been largely positive.
