NHL Prospects Max and Zam Plante Making College Hockey History

Max and Zam Plante are rewriting the record books in college hockey. The brothers are the first siblings on the same team to lead the NCAA in points, showcasing a family legacy deeply rooted in the sport. Their grandfather, Bruce Plante, was a celebrated coach in Hermantown, Minnesota, while their father, Derek Plante, played at the University of Minnesota-Duluth before an eight-year NHL career that included a 1999 Stanley Cup win with the Dallas Stars.

Plante Brothers Dominating the NCAA in 2025–26

Over thirty years after their father captained the Bulldogs, Max and Zam have taken the NCAA by storm, currently ranking first and second in points. Max leads with 23 points, while Zam follows closely with 22. Together, they have made history as the first pair of brothers on the same team to top the NCAA points leaderboard simultaneously. Their Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs have also gotten off to a strong start, holding an 11-3 record and sitting at #4 nationally. Max, selected in the second round of the 2024 NHL Draft by the Detroit Red Wings, and Zam, a fifth-round pick in 2022 by the Pittsburgh Penguins, are aiming to elevate both their team and their personal games in pursuit of Minnesota-Duluth’s fourth national championship.

The sophomore forwards’ chemistry on the ice is extraordinary, a product of growing up and playing together their entire lives. Each brings unique skills that complement one another while also enhancing the performance of their Bulldog teammates, making them a dynamic duo to watch this season.
