The Denver Broncos hosted workouts for eight CFL players on Friday, including B.C. Lions defensive back Robert Carter Jr.

Carter, who started all 18 games for the Lions in 2025, was the team’s nominee for Most Outstanding Rookie. He finished the season with 51 tackles, five interceptions, one forced fumble, and a defensive touchdown, while also starting both playoff games. In the West Semi-Final, he returned a kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown.

The 5-foot-10, 175-pound cornerback has quickly gained a reputation for highlight-reel plays, including a leaping, one-handed interception against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats that was widely celebrated as one of the CFL’s best plays of the year.

Before joining the Lions, Carter played two seasons at Robert Morris University, where he earned second-team all-conference honors as a senior in 2024. He recorded 66 total tackles, eight tackles for loss, two sacks, 14 pass breakups, five interceptions, and two blocked kicks, while also returning 22 kicks for 588 yards and a touchdown.

A native of Danville, Virginia, Carter previously played at UVA-Wise, compiling 74 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, 17 pass breakups, seven interceptions, and a fumble recovery across two seasons, along with 31 kickoff returns for 660 yards and a touchdown.

This marked Carter’s first NFL workout, though sources indicate he is expected to attend additional sessions soon.

Other CFL players in attendance included:

  • Dohnte Meyers, receiver, Saskatchewan Roughriders

  • Destin Talbert, defensive back, Hamilton Tiger-Cats

  • Trey Vaval, returner, Winnipeg Blue Bombers

  • Devin Veresuk and Braxton Hill, linebackers, Hamilton Tiger-Cats

  • Andrew Chatfield Jr., defensive end, Toronto Argonauts

  • Isaiah Wooden Sr., returner, Hamilton Tiger-Cats

Meyers, who had a breakout 2025 campaign with the Roughriders, finished with 65 receptions for 1,056 yards and eight touchdowns, earning All-West Division honors. The 25-year-old had joined Saskatchewan in 2024, recording 24 catches for 349 yards and one touchdown.

The 5-foot-10, 190-pound receiver played his college career at Delta State University, where he was named first-team All-Conference as a senior after 65 catches for 877 yards and eight touchdowns. Meyers’ workout in Denver was his third NFL visit, following sessions with the Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears.
