Edmonton Oilers Make Two Significant Changes Ahead of Hyman’s Comeback
The Edmonton Oilers made two roster moves Friday as they gear up for Saturday’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes, signaling that Zach Hyman’s return is imminent. The team placed defenseman Troy Stecher on waivers and sent rookie forward Isaac Howard to AHL Bakersfield.

Hyman is close to coming off LTIR, and head coach Kris Knoblauch indicated he could play Saturday. Activating Hyman required roster adjustments to free up roughly $2.2 million in cap space. Sending Howard down clears $1.62 million ($950K cap hit plus $667K in performance bonuses), leaving the team with $3.2 million in LTIR space. Once Hyman is activated and Stecher’s status is resolved, the Oilers will have about $212K in remaining cap space.
