Frederik Andersen ruled out of Game 4 as reason behind absence revealed
Frederik Andersen’s absence from Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final became the main talking point on Tuesday night, despite the Carolina Hurricanes securing a 5–3 win over the Vegas Golden Knights to level the series at 2–2.
With Andersen not dressed, Brandon Bussi was handed the start in net and delivered a composed performance, stopping 18 shots as Carolina claimed a vital victory. Pyotr Kochetkov served as the backup while Andersen was listed as the emergency goaltender.

After the game, Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind’Amour addressed the decision, keeping his explanation brief and focused on workload management. “Let him rest,” he said, adding that the team wanted to give Andersen as much recovery time as possible during the intense playoff schedule. Brind’Amour also confirmed that no final decision had been made regarding the starting goaltender for Game 5.
The team has not reported any injury, with the official stance remaining that Andersen’s omission was purely a rest-related decision as the series continues to intensify.
However, the lack of detail sparked speculation online, with fans debating whether there could be more to the situation than fatigue alone. Some discussions referenced personal circumstances circulating in hockey circles, though none of these claims have been confirmed by the Hurricanes or Andersen’s representatives.
For now, Carolina maintains that Andersen’s absence was a precautionary measure aimed at managing his workload, as they look to keep their veteran netminder fresh for the crucial stages of the series.
