Jakub Dobeš drops funny apology to Andrei Vasilevskiy post-Game 1

Montreal Canadiens went into Game 1 of their playoff series against the Tampa Bay Lightning with several players lacking postseason experience — and nerves appeared to play a role, especially for goaltender Jakub Dobeš.

The young netminder delivered a solid performance through regulation, helping push the game into overtime. However, in the extra period, an unusual moment highlighted the intensity of the occasion.

Instead of heading to his own crease, Dobeš mistakenly skated toward the Lightning’s net and even stood between their posts — a rare and humorous mix-up that quickly caught attention.

Speaking after the game, Dobeš laughed off the incident, admitting it was simply a moment of confusion in an unfamiliar situation. He explained that it was his first experience of playoff overtime and he briefly lost track of which end he was defending.

The Canadiens goalie also showed humility by apologising to opposing netminder Andrei Vasilevskiy, making it clear there was no intention behind the harmless mistake.

Despite the awkward moment, Dobeš handled it with good humour, smiling throughout his post-game interview and embracing the experience as part of his learning curve in playoff hockey.
