On Monday night, Alabama’s 2026 class member with the longest commitment renewed his commitment to the Crimson Tide.

Four-star wide receiver Zyan Gibson, who has been with the Crimson Tide since Christmas Eve, declared he would stop recruiting and was committed to Alabama:
He informs me that No. 5 CB @ZyanGibson has closed his recruitment.

On Christmas Eve, he committed to Alabama and spent the weekend taking his OV.

This summer, Ole Miss and Tennessee also hosted.

His advice to prospective recruits?

“They simply must return home.”

Other programs, especially those in the SEC, have actively courted Gibson. Rumours of a possible flip began when he made official visits to Tennessee and Ole Miss in the summer. In addition, he spent the last weekend of OV season at Alabama for his official and made multiple trips to Tuscaloosa during the summer. Enough was done by the Tide to keep the others away and confine him.

Naturally, that does not imply that the hiring process is finished. The sharks will surely be after Gibson throughout the autumn in an attempt to bring him to campus for gameday visits, but Early Signing Day in December is still a long way off.

However, Alabama has locked in the in-state pledge for the time being.

Alabama is almost finished with another outstanding defensive back class.
Along with 5-star Georgia native Jorden Edmonds, Gibson is one of two outstanding cornerbacks Alabama has committed to this class. The two will join a very talented CB room in Tuscaloosa, and they themselves comprise an impressive crop of defensive backs.

Three-star safety Rihyael Kelley, who transferred from Rutgers to Alabama earlier on Monday, committed to the Tide. Kelley is Kalen DeBoer and company’s first safety commit, but hopefully not their last.

When it comes to Maryland’s 5-star safety Jireh Edwards, Alabama is thought to be the favourite. On July 5th, Edwards is scheduled to make his pledge public. Following a June formal visit to Alabama, Edwards cancelled all of his further official engagements, presumably indicating a tacit commitment to the Crimson Tide. Late next week, we’ll check to see whether anything has changed on that front.

Should Alabama land Edwards as anticipated, Maurice Linguist’s 2026 DB class may come to an end. After the 2025 cycle, in which the Tide acquired an elite three-man class consisting of Chuck McDonald, Ivan Taylor, and Dijon Lee, it would be another home run.

Other cornerbacks in this class that Alabama has been linked to include Georgia native Lasiah Jackson and Georgia Tech commit Jaedyn Terry. Although it’s not necessary, it’s possible that the tide would take another corner.

There might not be space for another DB at this time due to the two already committed and the roster’s abundance of young players at the position. After this season, Alabama will lose senior Domani Jackson, but they should bring back the other CBs, such as Dijon Lee, Cam Calhoun, and Zabien Brown, to join McDonald and the two newcomers, Edmonds and Gibson, for the following season.

In the secondary, linguists have a wealth of talent to work with both now and in the future.
